Hurricane Sandy Relief Materials

The Internal Revenue Service has announced various forms of relief for those affected by Hurricane Sandy. According to the DISCLAIMER, all content on this website is general in nature.  If you have any questions or concerns, please call our office to discuss your particular matter.
The following link gives information on the extension of deadlines for payments and filings originally due between October 26, 2012 and February 1, 2013.
The following link reiterates information on the extensions mentioned above as well as provides additional details on who is affected and eligible for this relief.  In addition, this article provides information on the benefit of being able to claim disaster loss deductions on your current or previous year's tax return.  This can be especially beneficial to those affected by Irene (or other disasters in 2011) who were further impacted by Hurricane Sandy.
In addition, please see IRS Publiction 525 and 547 for information on whether "Qualified Disaster Relief" payments can be excluded from your income. While these are links to 2011 publications, it is expected (but not guaranteed) that the IRS will adhere to these standards for tax year 2012.
NJ-Specific Relief is outlined on the following link:  Specific relief includes extensions on payments and filings to November 26, 2012.  These forms of relief are certainly not as far-reaching as the federal forms, however affected taxpayers should avail themselves of all available forms of relief.
